Why accounts get restricted — and how to avoid it

ScaleShield Guides · ~6 min read

A restriction is Meta’s system deciding an account is higher-risk than the trust it has earned. It’s rarely one thing — it’s a stack of risk signals crossing a threshold.

Common triggers

  • New account + high spend + aggressive creative, all at once.
  • Repeated policy violations or a spike in ad rejections.
  • Payment problems — declines, chargebacks, or a flagged card.
  • Sudden changes in login location, device or behavior.
  • Landing pages that break, cloak, or mismatch the ad.
The pattern: each signal alone is survivable. Stacked together on a young account, they read as abuse.

How to stay clear

Space out your risk: warm the account, keep billing clean, run compliant creative, and change one variable at a time. If you must run a higher-risk angle, run it on an account with real history — never a fresh one.

Restrictions happen. Downtime shouldn’t.
